Use of “NOZOMI” and “MIZUHO” Shinkansen bullet trains

With a special ticket issuable only to JAPAN RAIL PASS holders, use “NOZOMI” or “MIZUHO” Shinkansen bullet trains on the Tokaido, Sanyo, or Kyushu Shinkansen lines.

"NOZOMI" and "MIZUHO" trains on the Tokaido and Sanyo Shinkansen Lines are not covered by the JAPAN RAIL PASS. However, if a JAPAN RAIL PASS holder additionally purchases an [ONLY WITH JAPAN RAIL PASS] NOZOMI MIZUHO Ticket before boarding the train, the PASS holder may use a "NOZOMI" or "MIZUHO" Shinkansen bullet train.
This ticket will expand your options. “NOZOMI” and “MIZUHO” are the fastest Shinkansen trains, so you will be able to create an even more flexible travel plan.

Tickets for some railway sections cannot be purchased at the reserved seat ticket machines.

Caution

  • Tickets can be purchased when a JAPAN RAIL PASS holder uses a “NOZOMI” or “MIZUHO” train within the valid period of their pass.
  • For JAPAN RAIL PASS (Green car) holders, tickets for Green cars, reserved seats in standard cars, and non-reserved seats in standard cars will be available for purchase.
  • For JAPAN RAIL PASS (standard car) holders, tickets for reserved seats in standard cars and non-reserved seats in standard cars will be available for purchase (tickets for Green cars will not be available).
  • Tickets for Green cars and reserved seats in standard cars will be sold per train, and tickets for non-reserved seats in standard cars will be sold on a one-way basis.
  • There are limits to the number of reserved seats in Green cars and standard cars. Tickets may not be available even when there are open seats.
  • A NOZOMI MIZUHO Ticket can be used only when it is used together with the PASS.
    When riding on the train outside of the section designated on the NOZOMI MIZUHO Ticket, an additional fare and fee must be paid for the corresponding section.
  • When purchasing a ticket for a non-reserved seat in an Ordinary car, be sure to confirm if the train has any non-reserved seats.
  • If the "NOZOMI" or "MIZUHO" train is delayed for over two hours, pass through a manned gate and notify the JR staff. Your ticket may be refunded.

NOZOMI MIZUHO Ticket: Rules for use

  • Conditions for sale
    • Tickets can be purchased when a JAPAN RAIL PASS holder uses a “NOZOMI” or “MIZUHO” train within the valid period of the JAPAN RAIL PASS.
    • For JAPAN RAIL PASS (Green car) holders, tickets for Green cars, reserved seats in standard cars, and non-reserved seats in standard cars will be available for purchase.
    • For JAPAN RAIL PASS (standard car) holders, tickets for reserved seats in standard cars and non-reserved seats in standard cars will be available for purchase (tickets for Green cars will not be available).
    • Tickets for Green cars and reserved seats in standard cars will be sold per train, and tickets for non-reserved seats in standard cars will be sold on a one-way basis.
    • There are limits to the number of reserved seats in Green cars and standard cars. Tickets may not be available even when there are open seats.
    • Tickets for children are also available for purchase.
  • Sales locations
    JR ticket office (“Midori-no-madoguchi”), reserved seat ticket machines, Travel Service Centers, and sales offices of JR-designated travel agencies nationwide in Japan
  • Validity
    • The Green cars, reserved seats in the standard cars and non-reserved seats in standard cars on “NOZOMI” or “MIZUHO” trains can be used only when the ticket is used in combination with a JAPAN RAIL PASS that is valid as of the day of using the train, regardless of the date of exchange or purchase of the JAPAN RAIL PASS.
    • The ticket may not be used in combination with tickets other than the JAPAN RAIL PASS.
    • The ticket is valid only for the section indicated on the ticket and in the direction and route specified on the ticket.
    • When the user gets off the train at a station that is before the destination, the ticket will become invalid for the remaining section.
    • The valid period will be one day.
    • Excluding non-reserved seats in standard cars, the ticket will be valid only for designated trains and facilities.
    • Discounts for connecting use of trains will not be available.
    • No other discounts may be used in combination.
  • Changing trains (before the designated train leaves)
    • Tickets for Green cars and reserved seats in standard cars may be changed once only to the same type of car/seat before the reserved train leaves the departure station.
    • For tickets for non-reserved seats in standard cars, the day of use may be changed once to a non-reserved seat in a standard car on another day as long as it is within the valid period.
  • Refunds
    Tickets may be refunded only at locations where tickets are sold.
    Note: Regardless of the place of issuance of the tickets to be refunded, the refunding of tickets will be done at the place of sale.
    (a) Prior to the start of travel
    Only before the valid term of the ticket or within the valid term (before the departure time of the specified train) and as long as the ticket remains unused, the amount of the ticket price minus the handling fee will be refunded. The handling fee for tickets for Green cars and standard car reserved seats is 340 yen, while the fee for standard car non-reserved seats is 220 yen.
    (b) After the start of travel
    No refund will be granted.
    (c) When trains are unable to run
    Assuming that fares and fees without discount have been paid, in accordance with the “Regulations on Passenger Operations,” the refund will be granted up to the price of one ticket.
    • The deadline for the refund is within one year from the day following the day on which the accident, etc., that caused the refund occurred.
  • How to handle a lost ticket
    If you lose a ticket, please purchase another ticket necessary for the railway section to be traveled. Additionally, even if you later find the lost ticket, no refund will be granted.
  • When using a NOZOMI MIZUHO Ticket, in addition to the above terms and conditions, the JR Railways Group' rules and general conditions of carriage, as well as the laws of Japan, will apply.
  • In the event a question arises concerning the conditions of carriage stated in English, the conditions stated in Japanese will be deemed the original text.
